What are the different names for transportation here? What is the difference between BART, MUNI, shuttle, train, subway, etc? Are they the same or different?

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a heavy-rail public rapid transit and subway system serving the San Francisco Bay Area

  • Heavy rail - a system characterized by high-speed, passenger rail cars running in separate rights-of-way from which all other vehicular and foot traffic are excluded.
1. Subway -  an underground rapid transit system also known as a metro, underground.

2. Train - connected series of vehicles that move along a track (permanent way) to transport cargo or passengers from one place to another place.

San Francisco Municipal Railway Company (MUNI) is the public transit system in San Francisco which operates light rail, busses, trolleys and street car routes throughout the city.
  • A light rail transit (LRT) system is an urban rail transit system with a "light" passenger capacity compared to heavy rail and metro systems.
1. Trolley car or electric tram (streetcar).

2. Trolley bus is an electric bus.

3. Cable car - transit system using rail cars that are hauled by a continuously moving cable running at a constant speed.

  • Shuttle -  a public transport system operating at frequent intervals on a short, (mostly) non-stop route between two places.
