Words

Dictation – Dictation is the speaking or reading aloud of words for someone else to write down.

Dictator – A dictator is a ruler who has complete power in a country, especially power which was obtained by force and is used unfairly or cruelly.

Herbivore – A herbivore is an animal that only eats plants. (vegetarian)

Carnivore – A carnivore is an animal that eats meant. (meat eater)

Omnivore – an *omnivorous person or animal. (both)

*Omnivorous – An omnivorous person or animal eats all kinds of food, including both meat and plants.

Extinct – A species of animal or plant that is extinct no longer has any living members, either in the world or in a particular place. (no longer exist)

Fossil – A fossil is the hard remains of a prehistoric animal or plant that are found inside a rock.

Excavation – (noun)

Excavate – (verb) When archaeologists or other people excavate a piece of land, they remove earth carefully from it and look for things such as pots, bones, or buildings which are buried there, in order to discover information about the past.

Mastodon – any extinct elephant-like *proboscidean mammal of the **genus Mammut(or Mastodon), common in Pliocene times.

*Proboscidean - of, relating to, or belonging to the Proboscidea, an order of massive herbivorous placental mammals having tusks and a long trunk: contains the elephants

**genus - A genus is a class of similar things, especially a group of animals or plants that includes several closely related species.

Jumble – A jumble of things is a lot of different things that are all mixed together in a disorganized or confused way.

Puerto Rico – an autonomous commonwealth (in association with the US) occupying the smallest and easternmost of the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean: one of the most densely populated areas in the world; ceded by Spain to the US in 1899. Currency: US dollar. Capital: San Juan. Pop: 3 897 000 (2004 est). Area: 9104 sq km (3515 sq miles).

Independent - not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc.; thinking or acting for oneself

Marijuana/marihuana - A preparation made from the dried flower clusters and leaves of the cannabis plant, usually smoked or eaten to induce *euphoria.

* euphoria - a state of intense happiness and self-confidence


Grid - a grating of crossed bars

Dirt - earth or soil, especially when loose.
